Missing Money
7) Bobo(Walter's friend), goes over to the Younger home to tell Walter about the business transaction with Willy. Bobo, Willy, and Walter put money together so they could get a liquor license faster, but Bobo found out that Willy stole all the money when they were supposed to meet and Willy never showed up. As a result Walter lost all of his mother's money from the insurance check, which was about $6,500. What is the irony in Walter's "friend" stealing his money? How does this relate to Walter's life?

It is ironic that the money is stolen by Walter's "friend" Willie, because Walter wanted to put money into the liquor business so that he could make money and get his family ahead. Now without the money, he cannot make money off of the liquor business because there will not be a business. Plus, his family is now behind. Bennie lost money for college and the family considers staying in the tenement house to get the money back from the house to survive on. This whole mess resembles Walter's life because it is exactly that, a big mess. It also seems that whenever Walter tries to get ahead something blocks him.

It is ironic that Walter's money had been stolen because all he had wanted was a liquor store. When Lena had given him the leftover money she told him not for the liquor store but for savings. So when he disobeyed his moms wishes he suffered for it in Willie taking his money. It goes directly with Walters life because nothing seemed to be going right for him and as soon as a spark of light came upon him he threw it away by giving the money away. Bringing Walter right back to where he started in misery.

I agree with both these comments, but in addition, it is ironic because Walter's friends were the people that he went to with his problems and trusted the most. He even trusted his friends more than his family. The irony comes into play when his friend steals the money and the only people Walter had to support him was the family that he chose to trust his friends over.

It seems as if that Walter always gets things stolen from him. But with the money gone, he soon realizes that you cant buy happiness with money and he goes on in life. He lives in the house and does what his family wants... not just himself.
